Things were getting a little congested near 9th and G Wednesday afternoon. It was the first day crews closed down the road between G and F for sewer repairs; it will be closed until next Friday.

"It’s kind of crazy because it’s nonstop traffic," said Candy Gervacio, who lives on the corner. "It makes me wonder how everybody, when they’re out of the work hours…it’s going to be crazy."

And it was. At lunchtime, cars backed up at 9th and G, trying to reroute down G to 13th, then down to South Street. The department working on the project, Sanitary Sewer System Repair, says they’ll finish much quicker shutting the road down rather than trying to keep some lanes of traffic available.

"They’re trying to repair a pipe and so, if it’s going to help the city and everything, then it’s a good thing," said Dylin Kelly, a 13-year-old who also lives nearby.

Construction also started across town at 70th and A Wednesday. They’re just repaving the road, though, so crews expect it to be done and open to traffic by Saturday.
