The Cornhusker State Games start this weekend, and thousands of athletes are gearing up to showcase their talents.

But it’s not just about soccer, track and field and swimming.

Trap shooting is also a featured sport.

"You get used to going up against the same people each year through school, so competing in the games is fun because you have new people to compete with," shooter Alexis Philson said

The Southwest High grad and her brother, Sam each medaled in last year’s competition.

The siblings have been competing since they were in middle school, and say it’s been a fun, competitive sport to be a part of.

"It’s a pump of adrenaline when you get to go up there and get an award," Sam said.

There are 10 different shooting events at the games this year.

Eighty total sporting events are available for people of all ages to compete in.

Opening ceremony kicks off Friday at Seacrest Field.

If you’re interested in competing, some events are still open.
