NEW YORK, NY — Creighton basketball center Justin Patton has won BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades for the second straight week, the league announced on Monday, Dec. 5th.

Patton averaged 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocked shots per game on 82.4 percent shooting from the field as Creighton posted a pair of double-digit wins over the defending champions from the Mid-American Conference Tournament (Buffalo) and regular-season (Akron).

Patton started his week by becoming just the third Creighton freshman in the last 25 years to post a double-double, as he had 21 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and a steal in a win vs. Buffalo. Patton made 9-of-10 shots from the field, becoming the first 7-footer in program history to sink a three-pointer.

He then had 11 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a win vs. Akron. Patton had eight of his points and five of his rebounds after halftime, including a pair of slams that give him 21 dunks in eight games the season.

Ranked 10th nationally in last week’s AP poll, Creighton’s 8-0 start is the program’s best start since a 12-0 mark to open the 2003-04 campaign.

Creighton will play two games this week, starting with Wednesday’s 8:06 p.m. tip at Nebraska. The Bluejays then host Longwood on Friday night at 6:30 pm.
