Damage Estimates in on Ogallala Flooding

Governor Johanns says damaged roads, bridges and other public property from the storm that dumped ten inches of rain in the Ogallala area, will total about 800-thousand dollars. The total is below the one point three million dollar threshold needed to qualify for federal disaster aid. Embankments and the bridge approaches to a section of Interstate 80 were washed out by the storm. The interstate was reopened Friday. Sixty-four homes and several businesses, mostly southeast of Ogallala, were damaged.

The Governor has asked President Bush to issue a presidential disaster declaration, which could get families and businesses federal assistance.
