A thunderstorm at sunset during Christmas vacation in Florida is all it took for Darby to get hooked by the weather bug. “Lightning was everywhere, and I never could get that image out of my head.” But it was his interest in reaching an audience that drove him to broadcasting the weather. “Since I was six years old, I've been rambling on about the weather to people who didn't care, now I can reach people who actually care whether they'll need a jacket in the morning”.
Darby is from Spencer, Indiana and received a Bachelor of Science diploma in Meteorology from Ball State University. After graduating, he was an intern at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, IN. He loves to storm chase and has even chased snow squalls off of Lake Michigan. Now as a meteorologist for the Channel 8 Eyewitness News, Darby is hoping to do severe weather storm chasing and presenting his weather forecasts to viewers who care about the weather. “I love what I am doing and I hope it shows through”, says Darby.
Darby likes to stay in good physical shape and also enjoys softball, tennis and snowboarding, although he admits he isn't very good at it and of course he would chase storms 365 days a year, if he could.
