Update: Firefighters release from hospital
An explosion and fire Thursday afternoon at Line-X sent 18 firefighters to the hospital for observation. All 18 were released Thursday evening.
At a news conference Thursday afternoon, Lincoln Fire Captain Guy Pink man said the firefighters were exposed to chemicals inside the building. Pink man says they were taken to the hospital for precautionary measures. Pink man says reaction to the chemicals sometimes doesn't appear for several hours.
Just before noon, an explosion was reported at Line-X near N. 48th and Superior Streets. Firefighters at the scene say a vehicle was on fire inside the business and was contained by a sprinkler system. Fire officials say chemicals used in the Line-X spraying process are oil-based and corrosive, and damaged firefighters' gear. As a result, firefighters were taken to the hospital due to exposure to those chemicals.
According to their website, Line-X provides spray-on protective coatings for truck bedliners and other products.
