Democrat changing races
A Democrat who filed to run for Nebraska secretary of state isn't just changing course, he's changing races. Kris Pierce says that effective Monday, his campaign for secretary of state will cease so that he can turn his attention to filling a vacant seat on the Omaha City Council.
Pierce seeks to replace former Omaha City Councilman Chuck Sigerson, who resigned last month as he continues to recover from a stroke and heart attack he suffered in August. The Omaha City Council will appoint a replacement for Sigerson.
Pierce's departure from the secretary of state's race leaves Janet Stewart as the only Democrat on the primary ballot for the post. She will face incumbent Republican John Gale in the general election. Gale is running unopposed in the primary.
