Denton home destroyed by house fire

A state fire marshal is investigating a house fire out near Denton. It happened near SW 112th and W Van Dorn.

"The fire was through the roof with flames up in the air quite a ways…and about half the roof was fully engulfed," said Asst. Fire Chief Roger Michaelis.

Pleasant Dale Fire and Rescue got the call around 11 a.m., responding with Malcolm and Southwest fire. It took hours to knock the flames back. Thankfully, the family made it out safely, but the house was a total loss.

Fire crews say the battle was especially hard in these freezing temperatures.

"We had a little ice problem with one of the pumps," Michaelis said. "It makes for slippery conditions when the water comes off and freezes."

Red Cross was there to help the family and the firefighters. We don’t yet know the cause of the fire, but will keep you updated with details when they become available.
