DeWitt teen loses part of ear in pit bull attack

A DeWitt teenager has lost part of his ear in a pit bull attack. The 17-year-old boy and other teens were playing with the dog at a Beatrice house earlier this week when the dog became aggressive and attacked the boy.

Police Capt. Gerald Lamkin says the teen was taken to a Lincoln hospital for injuries to his head, including having a piece of an ear bitten off. The dog is being quarantined in a local animal shelter for 10 days.

City Attorney Tobias Tempelmeyer says if the dog is determined not to be a danger, it will be returned to its owner. If it is declared a danger, it could be euthanized, or returned to its owner under certain conditions.
