Doane Men’s Basketball Coach Ian Brown Resigns

Doane College Athletic Director Greg Heier announced the resignation of Head Men's Basketball Coach Ian Brown on Monday afternoon.  Brown ends his tenure as head coach following completion of his tenth season.  He will continue teaching at Doane through the remainder of the academic year.

“Coach Brown has been an integral part of the Doane family first as a student-athlete and for the last 10 years as our head men's basketball coach,” commented Heier.  “He always did things the right way and the student-athletes he coached reflected that by the way they conducted themselves on and off the court.  The one thing that I appreciate most about Coach Brown is that through every up and down, he always had the best interests of Doane College at heart.  We will miss Coach Brown and wish him the best!”

Brown, a 1992 Doane graduate, returned to his alma mater in March 2002.  Over the next 10 years, Brown's teams won 123 games, second most for any Doane coach only to NAIA Hall-of-Famer Bob Erickson.

In his second season at Doane, Brown led the Tigers to the GPAC tournament championship game against Sioux Falls.  His players earned seven NAIA All-American honors, named to the NAIA Scholar-Athlete list 25 times and received 29 All-Conference honors.  The men's basketball program has also grown in numbers during his tenure with more than 30 players currently in the program between the varsity and junior varsity.

“It has been an honor to represent Doane College and the Crete community for the past 10 years,” Brown said. “This has been a true home for my family and me. I truly appreciate the support given by Doane and Crete to the men's basketball program as well has the young men who have worn the Orange and Black. With that being said, due primarily to family obligations, it is time for me to seek other professional opportunities while giving Doane the flexibility of hiring a coach in a timely manner. I wish only the best for Tiger basketball in the future.”

A search for a new head basketball coach at Doane College will commence immediately.  Interested persons should contact Greg Heier via e-mail at
