Doane QB Earns GPAC Honors

The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on Saturday, October 22, 2011.  Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2011-2012 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program. 

 

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Football Players-of-the-Week

Offense – Anthony Dunn, Doane – Quarterback
           
Doane quarterback Anthony Dunn is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week.  Dunn, a senior from Papillion, Nebraska, had a career day in the Tigers win over Dakota Wesleyan 33-28.  He completed 24-31 passes (.774) for 384 yards and three touchdowns.  He became the all-time leading passer in school history (6907 yards).  He engineered a game winning drive that culminated with the winning score at the 1:14 mark.  Doane is now 6-1 (5-1 GPAC) co-leads the GPAC with Morningside (6-1, 5-1).  Doane will play at Hastings this Saturday.

Defense – Colby Henderson, Defensive Back – Morningside
            Morningside defensive back Colby Henderson is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week.  Henderson, a junior from Wakefield, Nebraska, posted two interceptions in the Mustangs 34-14 win over Hastings.  He had a pick six of 32 yards for Morningside's first score in the game.  In the win he also had two tackles and one pass breakup.  Morningside is now 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the league. 

 

Special Teams – Andrew Nielsen, Kicker – Doane
    
Doane kicker Andrew Nielsen is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.  Nielsen, a senior from North Platte, Nebraska, kicked field goals of 35 and 42 yards in the Tigers win over Dakota Wesleyan 33-28.  He also made all three of his PAT's on the afternoon at Crete.  He averaged just over 60 yards per kickoff as Doane is now 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the league.
