Doane Sweeps Briar Cliff

Doane College swept a men's/women's doubleheader in soccer action on Saturday in Crete against Briar Cliff.
 
In the women's game, Doane picked up a dominate shutout victory, 4-0.  The Tigers had a 23-2 advantage in shots on goal in the game.  Kelsey Stark picked up the shutout, her second on the week after combining for one on Wednesday.  Mia Juarez had a goal and assist to lead the Tigers.  The women improved to 6-2-2 on the season and 4-0 in the GPAC.  They will take on defending GPAC champion, Hastings, on Wednesday, October 12, at 5:00 PM in Crete.  Both teams are unbeaten in conference play this year, pending the Hastings result later today.
 
The men's game went in Doane's favor, 2-1.  Devon Strecker scored the first goal of the game for the Tigers, marking his 35th career goal to move into a three-way tie for the top mark in school history with Eric Stearns and Rob Triano.  Chris Watson had an assist on Strecker's goal and added a penalty kick goal in the first half.  Doane held on in the second half as they were out-shot by the Chargerse, 19-8.  Doane is 5-6 on the season and 3-1 in the GPAC and will host No. 1 Hastings on Wednesday.
