Kearney got a first look at its new high school at today’s grand opening.

In just 9 days the bell will ring and doors will open for the very first day at the new Kearney High.

It’s a project 3 years in the making.

"It’s a gorgeous facility it’s very modern its set up so that it’s easy for kids to access classes."

Principal Jay Dostal says come next week there will be about 1,450 students here.

"You never anticipate exactly how the day is going to feel when the day arrives."

Dostal says they will respect and take care of the building.

"Trying to establish a culture, the way we are going to be at Kearney high."

He says the new school offers a lot more space and opportunity, with a larger cafeteria and additional programs.

"It’s just going to be a really cool experience to see all the kids coming together at once in this awesome new facility."

Dostal says just walking through you feel an overwhelming sense of pride and community members agree.

New this year the principal says they are bringing back the agriculture program that’s been dormant since 1960.
