Drivers Say Take It Slow On Roads

Blowing and drifting snow is making travel difficult on parts of Interstate 80 in eastern Nebraska. The State Patrol says travel was down to one lane on a 12-mile stretch of I-80 westbound between the Gretna and Greenwood exits Thursday afternoon.

Motorists are urged to use state Highway 6 instead in that area between Omaha and Lincoln. The patrol also says travel is confined to one lane on I-80 westbound near Seward. Meanwhile, wind-whipped snow has closed most roads in northeast Nebraska.

The patrol says roads from Neligh to the South Dakota border are blocked by drifts up to 6 feet high. Travel is not advised. Authorities have reported dozens of cars stranded along U.S. Highway 275 between Pilger and Norfolk and along U.S Highway 81 north of Norfolk.

Highway 34 west of Lincoln, Highway 15 near Seward is also experiencing road closures because of drifting.
