East, Knights, Thunderbolts, Crusaders Into Semifinal Round at Girls State Basketball Tournament

Lincoln–4 of the 5 teams from Lincoln schools advanced into the semifinal round of the 2003 Girls State High School Basketball Tournament with wins on Thursday.  The most exciting finish came in the Class A quarterfinal contest featuring Omaha Westside and Lincoln East.  The Warrios led by 6 late in the fourth, but the Spartans would score the final 7 points of the game.  The final three-points came on Sarah Sedlack's shot that beat the buzzer and sent East fans storming onto the court to celebrate with their teams 48-47 come-from-behind victory.

Top-ranked Lincoln Southeast won a much-less exciting contest.  The Knights got 12 points from Kim Shubert and 11 from Kari Sufficool (3 3-pointers) to knock off 10-and-10 Papillion-LaVista.

In Class B, fifth-seeded Lincoln Pius X scored a 59-54 overtime victory over fourth-seeded Gretna at Pershing Center.  Elizabeth Lange led the T-bolts with 22 points.  Pius will face top-ranked and top-seeded South Sioux City in Friday's semifinal contest at 9pm at the Devaney.

Defending Class C-1 champion Lincoln Christian came into the tournament as the eighth-seed and used a 22-point performance from Carley Paulsen to upset top-seeded Centura to stay alive in their quest for a second-straight C-2 crown.
