A Nebraska game official and police have killed a bull elk roaming a Lincoln neighborhood.

Neighbors in the Knolls Country Club area spotted the elk Thursday evening and called Animal Control and police.  State Game and Parks Commission biologist Pat Molini says the 800-pound elk charged him before it was shot.

Officials had been tracking the bull since Monday, when someone spotted it limping near Lincoln. Officials hoped it would head west, but Thursday, it hopped fences into a residential area. Officials believe it had a broken leg. Molini and police shot the bull several times with buckshot and shotgun slugs to kill it. Molini says officials determined it was not safe to use a high-powered rifle in a residential area.
