Escaped Indiana Inmates Caught In Nebraska

Three escaped Indiana inmates captured in Nebraska are being held in the Box Butte County Jail.

The Nebraska State Patrol said Friday that federal authorities will take custody of 49-year-old Christopher Marshall, 59-year-old Jerry Sargent and 31-year-old Bobby Cockerell. Authorities captured the men Thursday evening in the western Nebraska city of Alliance.

A news release said the three abandoned their disabled, stolen van in town. Two were immediately captured, but officials say the third _ armed with a handgun _ ran down an alley and tried to carjack a pickup.

The patrol said a police officer tackled him before he could get into the driver's seat. Several guns and $6,000 were found in the van.

The men escaped from the Branchville Correctional Facility on March 20.
