The basement of UNL’s Love Library is home to centuries old books and manuscripts.

University archives include works by William Shakespeare, Martin Luther, even Queen Elizabeth I.

But in order to preserve and restore the more than 500 literary works, the library is hoping to raise money. To do so, they created an initiative called ‘For the Love of Books’.
The initiative allows people to sponsor a book published during the Medieval or Renaissance period.

"You can adopt for $25 all the way up to $1000 if you want to adopt a comedy out of Shakespeare’s first folio, which we also have here in special collections. Which is pretty exciting, " says Professor Carole Levins.

Each donor will be recognized for their contribution and will receive a certificate. It allows donors library access to the literary work they’ve adopted.

If you’re interested, anyone can adopt a book through the end of December. (http://www.unl.edu/medren/love-books)
