A group of local campers are learning some life saving skills this week. It’s not humans they’re trying to save, it’s animals!

Campers at the Lincoln Zoo are participating in the ‘Wildlife Rescuers’ camp.

During the week, they’ve learned about all the animals that need saved at the Lincoln Zoo and around the world.

The Lincoln Zoo is home to multiple animals on the threatened and endangered species list, including the Galapagos tortoise, snow leopards, and red pandas.

The camp has taught kids ways they can rescue animals that have been injured and abandoned or face extinction.

Kids also get to interact with a variety of animals. "We got to go inside the critter outpost. And see the chinchillas, a cockatoo, and a porcupine. We got to feed the porcupine," said camper Finn.

Wildlife rescuers is just one of the many camps at the zoo. The Lincoln Zoo expects 1,500 kids will attend their camps this summer.
