Fairbury woman charged in husband’s murder

A Fairbury woman has been charged with first degree murder in the beating death of her husband.

54-year-old Susan DeJong was charged in Jefferson County Court Wednesday for the death of her husband, 52-year-old Thomas DeJong.

On Friday, March 11th, Fairbury Rescue was called to their home just west of Fairbury for an unresponsive man.  The state patrol says Thomas DeJong was taken by ambulance to Fairbury Community Health Center. He was then transferred by ambulance to BryanLGH West in Lincoln. 

The state patrol says DeJong, who appeared to have been severely beaten, was treated for multiple blunt force trauma to the head, torso and limbs. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.  An autopsy showed DeJong suffered broken ribs, severe bruising to his legs, and multiple cuts on his body.

The next morning, NSP investigator's arrested Susan DeJong for 11st Degree murder. She was taken into custody at the Lincoln Police Department where she was. She was then transported and lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.
