Fallen Canadian Soldier Has Nebraska Ties
There's a Nebraska tie to the recent friendly-fire death in Afghanistan.
A Canadian soldier was killed when U.S. warplanes, giving cover to NATO troops, mistakenly fired on them instead of Taliban militants.
That soldier was a former member of the University of Nebraska track team.
The Canadian soldier killed in that incident was Mark Graham, a former sprinter for the Huskers in the mid 90's.
Graham, who was from Hamilton, Ontario, competed for Canada in the 1992 Olympics.
He then came to the University of Nebraska and ran for the Huskers in 1994 and 1995.
Graham was the Big-12 indoor Champion in the 400-meter dash in 1994.
NU Track Coach Gary Pepin says Graham was one of the most well built athletes he's ever worked with.
Graham was recruited to Nebraska by former Husker Assistant Steve Rainbolt.
Graham's body is now on its way back to Ontario where his family still lives.
