Family and Friends Remember Fallen Soldier, Jeremy Fischer
Hundreds of people said their last goodbyes Wednesday to Sergeant Jeremy Fischer of Lincoln. The 26 year old soldier was killed in Iraq on July 11th when a roadside bomb went off near his convoy.
More than 400 people attended Sergeant Fischer's funeral in Harvard where he spent much of his school years. Many shared memories they had with him before saying their final goodbyes. Friends tried to hold back tears as they remembered Fischer as a hardworking, trustworthy and dependable soldier.
His wife Sarah of only a little more than a year was presented with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals for his courage and for giving the ultimate sacrifice while serving his country in Iraq.
Sergeant Fischer's body was taken to the cemetery in Ong, Nebraska. His fellow soldiers say his sense of humor helped others get through the rough times while overseas. They say he loved his career in the military and believed in what he was doing.
