Father of the Year

When Tracy Fuller heard an ad on the radio she knew she had to nominate the man she's always called dad. Now he's the man the Christian Heritage group says is our state's father of the year.

“When they called me and told me that he was the winner I just started to cry,”Fuller said.

Grant Schlotman is Nebraska's 2010 father of the year.

“It's really something. I'm just happy my kids thought that much of me,”Schlotman said.

Husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Schlotman is the rock of his family. He married Tracy Fuller's mother, and he's always been daddy since then.

So Fuller wrote this essay telling the Christian Heritage why he is so special saying ” Through thick and thin he's always put family first. I also watched how much he loved my mom in the last 10 years she's been sick he's been her caretaker he loved her and never left her stayed with her till the end when she died.”

He did all that while still making it to work in Omaha, every day.

“Grant has got to be the hardest working man I've ever met.”

So through sickness, death and divorce, Schlotman has always been there.

As Fuller wrote in her essay, “even if my father is not awarded father of the year. I believe many people would agree that he is nothing less than a saint.”

Schlotman says,”Yeah there were the good times and the bad times but even the bad times were the best of times and you know I would do it all over again in a heart beat.”

Schlotman will be honored June 17, 2010 at a special luncheon at the embassy suites with about 30 family members there for the celebration.
