Fire Causes Extensive Damage To Lincoln Apartments and Businesses
Lincoln Fire and Rescue worked into the night at a fire that started Friday afternoon in South Lincoln. The fire broke out just before 5 o'clock in a building at 27th and Randolph. Strong winds fanned the fire that forced people to evacuate ten apartments and four businesses.
While fire crews contained the flames, police did their best to handle traffic along a very busy 27th Street. A section of the street was shut down, forcing detours during the Friday rush hour.
Fire officials believe the blaze began on the second floor, possibly in the attic. It took them 30 minutes to get the fire under control, but hot spots were a concern throughout the evening.
Officials are still investigating how the fire started. Most of the damage was contained to apartments on the south and west sides of the building. There were no injuries reported.
