Fire Destroys Old Market Building
A four-alarm fire erupted in Omaha's Old Market Tuesday afternoon. It's three months after the historic Butternut building was gutted by a fire just blocks away. The fire burned for several hours. Officials say the building was under renovation. It was slated to become a restaurant. The fire started around 4:15 in the afternoon. By about 4:50, firefighters were pulled out of the three story building at 12th and Howard Streets as fire poured through the windows. By five o'clock the roof of the building collapsed. Thick smoke blanketed the area as crowds gathered to watch the blaze. No word on how the fire started. It's under investigation.
