Former Adj. Gen. Laid To Rest

Family and friends gathered Saturday to remember Retired Lt. Gen. Stanley M. Heng, the former commander of the Nebraska National Guard.

Heng died Monday at a hospice in Lincoln. He was 71.

A funeral service was held this morning at the Nebraska National Guard's Spirit of 76 Armory in Lincoln.

Heng was born Nov. 4, 1937, in Nebraska City and grew up on his family's farm.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 23, 1956, and began his career with the Nebraska National Guard in June 1960. He was selected as adjutant general in 1987 by then-Gov. Kay Orr and retired in December 2000.

Heng is survived by his wife, Sharon, three children and 10 grandchildren.
