A former husker and some friends helped to make the holiday season brighter for some.

“This is like that passion of mine,” said former Husker Eric Warfield. “Working with inner city kids and non-profit orginizations.”

Eric Warfield teamed up with the Lincoln Lighthouse to go on a shopping spree for local children. Eighty-three kids got $100 gift cards to buy presents for themselves and their families.

Warfield also got donations from a friend and Larry The Cable Guy, who gave $5,000 each.

“I want to be someone to give them hope, someone to help inspire, someone to help to show them that they care. It means a lot,” said Warfield. “To show them that they can be who I was when I was a kid. That I was in those streets, I was a kid that was having problems in school, and yet I found my way out.”

Warfield, who played for the huskers and in the NFL, has been doing this for kids for years.

He says he hopes to serve 200 kids in Lincoln next year.
