Former Nebraska Senator Passes Away
The state of Nebraska has lost a former Senator, and longtime director of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. 76-year-old, Eugene Mahoney died early this morning, after a lengthy illness. Mahoney served in the legislature from 1961 to 1976.Later that same year, he was appointed to head the game and parks commission, which he held until 1988. During that time, he helped develop one of the state's premiere parks, The Mahoney State Park, named in his honor. He also helped develop hiking, skiing and canoe trails in the parks system.
