Cassandra Briggs was given prison time for taking money from the Santa Cop Program.  Briggs had pleaded guilty earlier this year for stealing close to $9,000 from the Santa Cop Program she ran between 2008 and 2010.

Briggs, a former Lincoln Police officer was arrested in April of last year.  Days later, she resigned. She made a tearful apology in court. Briggs was sentenced to 2-5 years in prison. She's eligible for parole after one.

Briggs pled guilty to stealing more than $9,000 from the “Santa Cop” charity. The defense said Briggs was under financial and emotional stress when she took the money.

Santa Cop collects money to buy toys for underprivileged children during the holiday season.  She was accused of misappropriating charity funds into her own bank account.

In January of 2011, Briggs entered a plea agreement pleading guilty to one charge of theft.  The second count was dropped.

Briggs spent 15 years with LPD. The judge said because of family circumstances her sentence will not begin until June 3rd. Her son has special needs. And her father died just last week.
