Four Huskers Place Top Ten at NCAAs

Birmingham, Ala. – The Huskers saw four individuals at the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Event Finals at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex on Sunday afternoon bringing the 2014 Nebraska women’s gymnastics season to a close. The seniors highlighted the day; Jamie Schleppenbach tied for third-place on beam while Emily Wong finished eighth on floor and sixth in the all-around.

Emily Wong competed on two events for the Huskers on Sunday. In the floor finals she put together a seamless routine to notch a 9.90 score and take eighth-place overall. Wong is now a two-time first-team All-American on floor and has finished in the top 10 in the nation on the event for the past two years.

Fellow senior Schleppenbach after struggling a little through the regular season on beam came out ready to perform at the championships delivering a beautiful performance. Schleppenbach took third place with a score of 9.8875. She ended her career as a two time All-American on vault and beam.

Junior Jessie DeZiel came in eighth on beam soaring to a 9.8625 on the event with her stellar routine. DeZiel is now a two-time All-American on beam after capturing second-team honors last season.

Sophomore Hollie Blanske competed in her first NCAA event final championships with grace. On beam, the Oak Grove, Minn. Native, recorded a 9.85 mark to finish her career 10th in the nation on beam. Blanske picked up first-team All-America honors on the event.

The all-around awards were also handed out at the end of the meet. The Huskers had two gymnasts finish in the top-10 for the all-around competition. Wong tied for sixth-place with a score of 39.525, while DeZiel took home another eighth-place finish recording a score of 39.500. Both individuals earned second-team All-America status for their honors.

Sixth-ranked Nebraska finished the year with a 28-11 record and four Huskers – Hollie Blanske, Jessie DeZiel, Jamie Schleppenbach and Emily Wong – combined for a total of seven All-America awards. Senior Wong finished her historic season undefeated in the all-around during the regular season, posted a perfect 10.00 on floor at the Big Ten Championships, was the Regional All-Around Champion and was the 2014 AAI Award winner
