Fundraiser For Norris Schools
The Hillcrest Country Club is holding a golf tournament on July 1st to help with the clean-up effort at Norris School. The school was severely damaged when storms ripped through the area on May 22nd.
The initial idea of a tournament as a way to raise money only came about a few weeks ago. But as soon as it was made public, the outpouring of support was immediate. Hillcrest Country Club's General Manager with a week to go until the event, a goal 144-golfers signing up has already been reached and exceeded. Hillcrest Country Club officials say the response has been so overwhelming they are considering adding a second day just to accommodate all the people who want to participate.
Norris Superintendent Roy Baker says everyone at Norris has been overwhelmed by all the support they've received since tornados devastated the school a month ago. To date, he says they've received upwards of $15,000 in donations.
The tournament itself is full, and there is a waiting list, but there is an awards banquet being held on the evening of July 1st. Tickets are $50. For information, call 489-7111.
