Gang member sentenced in stabbing

A young Columbus man who stabbed a member of a rival gang has been given 12-to-22 years in prison. Eighteen-year-old Benjamin Gonzalez was sentenced on Tuesday.

Gonzalez was 17 when he committed his crimes last fall but was prosecuted as an adult. He was given 6-to-10 years for the stabbing, 6-to-12 years for aiding a drive-by shooting and two-to-four years for possessing a stolen firearm.

The stolen firearms possession sentence is to be served at the same time as the other sentences, which are to be served consecutively. Prosecutors say Gonzalez stabbed a 35-year-old Columbus man, who survived, and participated in a drive-by shooting a few weeks later.
