Gas-tanker driver killed in crash

The crash of a tanker truck hauling gasoline on U.S. Highway 83 near North Platte killed the driver. Lincoln County authorities said Monday that the tank trailer ruptured, spilling an estimated 10,000 gallons of gas.

Three firefighters who had waded into the gas were taken to a hospital as a precaution. Lincoln County Sheriff Jerome Kramer says the truck hit a guardrail on the east side of the Platte River bridge and went over the embankment.

The truck ran into some trees and rolled over on its back. Foam and water were sprayed on the wreckage to hold down fumes and prevent any fire. The name of the driver is not yet available
