Gas Tax Bill Introduced
A bill introduced in the Legislature Wednesday could have you paying more at the pump. Under the bill, the gas tax would increase two cents per gallon, costing the average Nebraska driver about 12 dollars more a year in taxes.
Right now the gas tax stands at about 25 cents a gallon. That money is split between the state, cities, and counties. The bill introduced on Wednesday would increase the tax 2 cents. That would bring in another 26 million dollars a year. But that money would just go to cites and counties, not the state.
Here in Lincoln that money would help pay for repairing and upgrading roads. Governor Johanns says this type of gas tax which benefits citys and counties hasn't gone up since the mid 1980's.
