Good News For Nebraska Cattle Farmers
There's good news for Nebraska cattle farmers and ranchers. A federal court ruling could lead to higher profits for their beef. Cattlemen across the country have argued for years that they were being underpaid by beef packers. They accused the company, Tyson Foods, of only buying cattle from certain farmers, something that was driving down prices. A court in Alabama agreed, saying Tyson, the nation's largest beef packer, had unfairly manipulated beef prices. Cattle farmers and ranchers in Nebraska are excited about the decision. Tyson Foods has announced it will appeal the ruling, so changes within the beef industry won't take place any time soon. Tyson purchased IBP Incorporated in 2001. IBP has several processing plants here in Nebraska.
