Governor Weighs Death Penalty Options

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman is meeting with the attorney general to determine the impact of a Supreme Court ruling that upholds Kentucky's use of lethal injection executions.

The court's ruling Wednesday likely will clear the way for Kentucky and other states to resume executions that have been on hold for nearly eight months.

In Nebraska, Heineman might ask the Legislature to adopt a new method. In February, the state Supreme Court ruled electrocution unconstitutional. It was Nebraska's only method of execution.

The legislative session ends Thursday. The governor could call a special session and propose a bill that would provide a new method.
