The John Breslow Ice Center broke ground this morning, and many came out to celebrate the ceremony of the Breslow Center including representatives from the University of Nebraska and Mayor Chris Beutler.

UNL alum John Breslow donated $7 million to help fund the project and he was honored at the event.

The facility located near the southeast corner of Haymarket Park will feature a National Hockey League sized sheet of ice, lockers, seating for 700 people, and concessions.

“It’s been a long time putting it together, but we have a wonderful location. The main problem was finding the best location and we have that now. And so it will be a wonderful ice center for everybody in the community, ” says John Breslow.

The 7 year long wait is finally over with today’s groundbreaking.

“It means a lot. I was just talking to the club team of the University of Nebraska and they will have a place close by. A lot of people will have a place close by to be on the ice, and I think it will mean a lot to Lincoln,” says John Breslow.

Construction is scheduled to begin in January and the project is expected to be completed by August of 2015.
