Health Alert Issued For Two Area Lakes

Parks and Recreation officials issued a health alert for both Pawnee and Iron Horse Trail Lakes after both showed high levels of toxic blue-green algae. As a result, those who visit Pawnee Lake will not be able to use its two beaches and will be warned not to swim.

Parks and Rec officials want people to know the lakes will still be open for boating and fishing.

If contaminated water comes in contact with your skin, you might have symptoms like rashes, blisters and ear and eye irritation. If you swallow the water, some symptoms include headaches, nausea, and abdominal pain. The biggest risk is to pets and farm animals- there have been several cases where animals have died from ingesting the water.
