Heat Stroke Dangers

Local hospitals were feeling the brunt of heat related illness.

Emergency room doctors at Bryan LGH say cases of heat exhaustion have spiked significantly in the past two days.

Symptoms usually begin with fatigue, sometimes followed by vomiting. If untreated, it can progress into full blown heat stroke.

“When you have a change in your mentation, you become confused and disoriented, those are the signs of heat stroke,” Dr. John Bonta says.

Doctors say the cause of most of the heat exhaustion cases so far have involved alcohol. So, those who will be outside this holiday weekend for long periods of time are asked to blend regular glasses of water with those celebratory beverages.
