Good food, great beer and even better company.

Granite City is back, and bigger than ever.

"I wish there was a better word than excited but there isn’t this has been long coming for a few months now,” the restaurant and brewery’s general manager Christopher Moore said. “It’s – ecstatic."

To celebrate its highly anticipated return, the restaurant brought in some of Lincoln’s hometown heroes.

Heisman trophy winners Eric Crouch, Johnny Rodgers and Mike Rozier were all there to host Husker Happy Hour.

"Right from New York City to Lincoln, Nebraska,” Crouch said. “Wonderful fans — the best fans in the world. It’s good to give back to the community. We love being a part of the grand opening here at Granite City."

The popular eatery’s original location closed down in September to make way for a Dick’s Sporting Goods at Gateway Mall.

To make it easy for patrons, this new location is just 200 yards away.

"I couldn’t wait until it opened up,” Renae Oliver, who frequents Granite City, said. “I really enjoy coming here they have a lot of great food"

As for Dick’s Sporting Goods, Gateway Mall says construction crews started laying foundation in September.

The business is expected to be open late summer or early fall of 2017.
