Hergert Takes The Stand

The prosecution has rested its case in the impeachment trial of University of Nebraska Regent David Hergert. Hergert took the stand for the first time Thursday morning. Prosecutor David Domina questioned him about late spending reports he filed that deprived incumbent Don Blank of matching state funds during the 2004 race. Domina ended his questioning by asking Hergert if he was quilty of the charges.

Hergert had admitted to breaking campaign finance laws, but he says it's not an impeachable offense. The trial ended abruptly until Monday so a defense witness can make it to Lincoln to testify. The trial is expected to wrap up Monday.
