Lincoln East High School’s Science Bowl team is celebrating a big achievement! They’re state champions for the fourth year in a row! Here’s tonight’s “Excellence in Education” report.

Five students make up the school’s science bowl dynasty. They’re famous for answering questions in record time and of course, taking home those trophies. For the past eight years Lincoln East has won the State High School Science Bowl Championship six times. Despite their good grades and amazing track record, these students say it’s harder than you might think.

“It’s a winner takes all scenario. You loose, you’re done and the streak ends so there’s a lot of pressure but it was a good run at the end. It really makes it more than just the trophy in this case because of the journey we had to take to win,” says Chris Jurich.

“Every time I’ve been on the science bowl team, we’ve gotten to nationals and it’s always been a team effort. Everyone on the team has always contributed something so this year I’ve done math and geo–science,” says Isaak Arslan.

“This team has more chemistry then I’ve had in the past. I saw it in state they work together better then any team that been here,” says Coach Kyle Thompson.

These students are advancing to nationals in Washington D.C. on April 30 through May 4th. You might remember the Lux Middle School Science Bowl team is heading to nationals as well.
