Holocaust Survivor Shares His Story

A Holocaust survivor re-counted his heartbreaking story Sunday afternoon during a special ceremony at the state capitol. Sam Fried is one of a handful of survivors who were at the Holocaust commemoration. He is the only one who spoke about his experience living in the concentration camp at Auschwitz. He tells us he is the only member of his family who made it through alive.

Fried didn't have a name, only a number branded on his arm.  He was separated from his parents at the camp… 75 percent of the people who arrived there, went right to the gas chambers. Fried ended up working at the camp.  He lived on four pieces of bread a day.

More than one-million people died at Auschwitz during World War II. The majority were of the Jewish faith.
