Hooper Earns WBCA All-Region Honor

Posted By: Sports
Nebraska senior Jordan Hooper earned first-team All-Region 6 honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Tuesday.
The 6-2 forward from Alliance, Neb., captured Big Ten Player-of-the-Year honors on her way to averaging 20.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for the Big Ten Tournament champion Huskers. Hooper finished her four-year Nebraska career by leading the Huskers to their third consecutive NCAA Tournament, while averaging 25 victories over her final three seasons.
Hooper, who made 131 consecutive starts to rank second in Husker history trailing only Lindsey Moore's 132, set a Nebraska record with 295 career three-pointers. She also tied 2010 WBCA first-team All-American Kelsey Griffin's school record with 40 career double-doubles. Hooper produced 14 double-doubles as a senior, while leading the Big Red to the second-most victories and the second-fewest losses (26-7) in school history.
Hooper finished No. 2 at Nebraska in career scoring and rebounding with 2,357 points and 1,110 rebounds as the only Husker in history with more than 2,300 points and 1,100 rebounds. She finished No. 6 in Big Ten history in career scoring and No. 9 in career rebounding as one of only two players in the history of the conference with 2,300 points and 1,100 boards.
Hooper scored more points (102), grabbed more rebounds (55) and hit more threes (13) in NCAA Tournament play than any other Husker in history.
As a first-team WBCA All-Region selection, Hooper will advance to the national ballot all with 51 other all-region honorees in contention for first-team All-America honors.

The selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
The 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 1:10 p.m. CT Saturday April 5, during NCAA® Women's Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
