GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP)

Hundreds of volunteers are cleaning up Grand Island in the first citywide cleanup since 2010.

Rotary Club members were out in force Tuesday to remove litter from a mile of U.S. Highway 281, and more than 40 JBS employees are scheduled to pick up trash Wednesday along Stuhr Road.

The 10-day effort wraps up Sunday. Denise McGovern-Gallagher is executive director of the Grand Island Area Clean Community System. She says one goal of the cleanup is to neaten the city for the State Fair’s 300,000 visitors. And she says another goal is “just to make Grand Island look good.”
