Nebraska Right to Life held their annual Walk for Life rally Saturday morning.

Around 1,000 people met at the State Capitol for the pro-life event, which organizers say is growing every year. Several state officials also made an appearance, including Lt. Gov. Mike Foley and Congressman Jeff Fortenberry. After some remarks on the Capitol steps, walkers made their way to the UNL Student Union for additional keynote speakers. Pro-lifers from across the state say their ultimate goal is to abolish abortion and defend the rights of unborn children.

“We’re really here to stand up for the legal protection of human life from the moment of conception up until birth, life is sacred in all stages,” Keynote speaker Mario St. Francis Herrera said.

A group of pro-choice supporters made sure their opinions were heard, too. Around 20 of them stood across the street with signs of their own. Those in that group say they believe women should have the right to choose whether or not to get an abortion.

“I’m here today because I care about a woman’s right to make decisions about her own life and I don’t think it’s the government’s business what she does with her own body,” Audrey Nance of Lincoln said.
