Huskers Beat Drake

(Lincoln-ap) — Kiera Hardy scored 18 points and Alexa Johnson added 16 to lead Nebraska to a 73-to-60 win over Drake tonight (Thursday) in the opening round of the Women's National Invitation tournament in Lincoln. Drake tied the game at 50 on a basket by Linda Sayavongchanh and the bulldogs had the chance to take their only lead with eight minutes to play, but Martha Chaput missed two free throws and Nebraska went on a 12-to-two run to take control. Katie Morse had 14 points for the Cornhuskers in their first post-season home game since 1993 and first post-season appearance since 2000. Keasha Cannon-Johnson notched her 12th double-double of her career with eleven points and ten rebounds. Hardy scored twelve in the first half as Nebraska led 33-to-30 at halftime despite the bulldogs making 50-percent of their shots. Nebraska outrebounded drake 50-to-30 for the game. Drake was led by Whitney Pegram's 15 points and Sayavongchanh added 15 of her own.
