Huskers Continue Fall Season at Firestone

The Nebraska men's golf team heads to Firestone Country Club for the Firestone Invitational on Monday and Tuesday as the Huskers continue their fall campaign.

Firestone Country Club, which hosts the PGA Tour's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational each year, will play host to the 17-team field on Monday and Tuesday. The North Course, a par-72, 7,125-yard layout, will be where the 54-hole event is contested. Monday's first round begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The second round will immediately follow on Monday, with Tuesday's final round starting with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun.

Scott Willman will lead the Huskers into Akron, playing in the No. 1 position. The senior is coming off a 16th-place result at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate where he led the Huskers to a 12th-place finish overall. Willman's other two results for the fall 2011 campaign are a tie for 15th at the Kansas Invitational and a tie for 10th at the Fairway Club Invitational.

Representing the No. 2 spot for the Huskers will be sophomore Manuel Lavin. Lavin's stroke average through three tournaments is 75.11, good for second on the team. The Mexico native is coming off a tie for 48th in Illinois, where he improved each round. Lavin's lowest round on the season is 70 and his best finish is second, which he earned at the Fairway Club Invitational.

Neil Dufford will be No. 3 in the Husker lineup in Akron, Ohio. Dufford has the third-best stroke average on the team, averaging 76.00 strokes per round through three events. Last week Dufford posted a tie for 57th finish at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. The junior's best finish this fall is a tie for seventh at the Fairway Club Invitational.

Ross Dickson will be making his fourth career start as a Husker at the Firestone Invitational and will play as the No. 4. The London, England native tied for 57th in his last time on the course and is averaging 78.89 strokes per round.

Kevin Gillick is No. 5 in the Husker lineup, making his third overall appearance for the Huskers and his second as a member of the lineup. The junior transfer earned a 62nd-place finish at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. Gillick's stroke average in six rounds is 77.83.

Joining the Huskers this week are fellow Big Ten members Indiana and Wisconsin. Former Big 12 rivals Iowa State and Kansas State will also be in the field at Firestone. Check Huskers.com for day-by-day recaps from the Firestone Invitational.
