Huskers “Cowboy Up”
(Stillwater, Oklahoma-AP) — Daniel Bruce had a grand slam in a five-run sixth inning to lead Nebraska to a nine-to-one win in a series finale against Oklahoma State on Monday in Stillwater. Bruce finished the day going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and four r-b-is to give the Cornhuskers a final leap on Oklahoma State.
Nebraska got its start when Jake Mullinax gave the Cornhuskers a one-to-nothing lead in the top of the second with a solo home run, his seventh of the season.
On the mound, Dustin Timm gave up seven hits, stuck out four and allowed the Cowboys' their lone run in his four and two-thirds innings. But Justin Pekarek took the win for Nebraska allowing no runs and striking out three in his four-and-a-third innings of relief. Pekarek has not allowed a run in 15 innings of relief this season.
Oklahoma State got their first and only run in the fifth from Ty Wright, who singled home Keanon Simon. Nebraska took its big lead in the sixth, scoring five runs on only two hits. The Huskers scored five unearned runs off starter Dustin Rew, who took the loss for the Cowboys and dropped to five-and-six on the season.
