Huskers fall to No. 13 Clemson, 5-2

Clemson, S.C. – The Nebraska soccer team (6-2-0) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, but No. 13 Clemson scored four straight goals to defeat the Huskers at Historic Riggs Field on Sunday afternoon.The Tigers struck first in the fifth minute when Miranda Weslake scored off an assist from Sam Staab. One minute later, Nebraska freshman Meg Brandt scored her second goal of the season off an assist from senior Jaycie Johnson to tie the score 1-1.In the 10th minute, senior Caroline Flynn found the back of the net for the first time this season, and gave NU a 2-1 advantage. Flynn’s goal was the 11th of her career at Nebraska.The Huskers managed seven shots in all against Clemson, but the Tigers took 27 against the NU defense. Freshman goalkeeper Aubrei Corder collected six saves over 90 minutes.Nebraska held its 2-1 lead until late in the first half when the Tigers scored twice in the final five minutes. In the 41st minute, Emily Byorth tied the game at 2-2, before Tori Andreski gave Clemson a 3-2 lead with her goal in the 44th minute. Clemson added a pair of goals in the second half. Claire Wagner found the back of the net in the 51st minute and Jenna Polonsky scored in the 74th minute.The Huskers open Big Ten play next weekend with two matches at home. NU faces Michigan State on Friday at 7:05 p.m. (CT) before battling Michigan on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
